New Delhi, April 22, 2025: In a significant move in the Indian telecom space, Bharti Airtel announced on Tuesday that it, along with its subsidiary Bharti Hexacom Limited, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the rights to use 400 megahertz spectrum from Adani Data Networks Limited (ADNL).
Deal Details and Spectrum Coverage
Adani Data Networks had earlier acquired the 400 MHz spectrum in the 26 gigahertz band for approximately ₹212 crore during the 2022 spectrum auction. The new agreement between Airtel and ADNL includes the following allocations:
-
Gujarat – 100 MHz
-
Mumbai – 100 MHz
-
Andhra Pradesh – 50 MHz
-
Rajasthan – 50 MHz
-
Karnataka – 50 MHz
-
Tamil Nadu – 50 MHz
This acquisition is expected to strengthen Airtel’s 5G rollout and further enhance its position in India’s competitive telecom landscape.
Strategic Implications for Airtel
This deal marks a strategic move by Bharti Airtel to boost its 5G spectrum portfolio, especially in key metropolitan and high-demand circles. The 26 GHz spectrum band is known for enabling high-speed, low-latency 5G services, making it a valuable asset for telecom operators eyeing future-ready networks.
Industry experts see this as a calculated effort by Airtel to expand its 5G infrastructure and prepare for an increasingly digital economy where speed and bandwidth will be crucial.
