Ilayaraja Sends ₹5 Crore Legal Notice to Good Bad Ugly Makers

Popular music composer Ilayaraja has served a legal notice to the makers of the Tamil movie Good Bad Ugly for using his iconic songs without obtaining permission. Sent to Mythri Movie Makers, the notice demands ₹5 crore compensation and asks the team to remove the songs and issue an unconditional apology within seven days.

Ilayaraja Songs Used in Good Bad Ugly Without Permission

The notice points out that the film used three of Ilayaraja’s most celebrated tracks:

  • “Otha Roobaiyum Tharen…”

  • “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi…”

  • “Ilamai Idho Idho…”

These songs appear during major scenes, including the introduction of villain Arjun Das and an intense fight sequence. Ilayaraja has objected to the unauthorized use of songs in Good Bad Ugly, claiming copyright infringement.

Ilayaraja’s Past Legal Issue With Manjummel Boys

This is not the first time Ilayaraja has taken legal action. In 2024, the Malayalam film Manjummel Boys used his song “Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan…” without prior consent. That case was later settled after the movie’s box office success, reportedly for ₹60 lakh.

Good Bad Ugly Box Office Collection

Despite the controversy, Good Bad Ugly movie has become a commercial hit. Since its worldwide release on April 10, 2025, it has crossed ₹100 crore in India and over ₹170 crore globally. The movie includes multiple references to actor Ajith’s old movies, dialogues, and visuals, which have been appreciated by fans.

Will Mythri Movie Makers Respond?

As of now, there has been no official response from Mythri Movie Makers regarding Ilayaraja’s notice. Given the track record from past issues, the matter may lead to a settlement or court battle.
