The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red” alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra and East Madhya Pradesh on Friday, signaling the potential for severe weather conditions in these regions.
The IMD has also warned of very heavy rainfall in several other parts of the country, including Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Assam, and Meghalaya.
For Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane, a “yellow” alert has been issued, indicating that residents should stay prepared for moderate to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, districts such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are under an “orange” alert, which indicates an increased likelihood of very heavy rainfall. A “red” alert has also been issued for the ghat regions of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected.
Heavy Rainfall Alert In Himachal Pradesh
In Himachal Pradesh, cloudbursts have struck the districts of Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu, leading to the recovery of five bodies, while over 50 people remain missing. The situation is critical as rescue operations continue. Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma has stated that a heavy rain alert is in place until August 2, with an “orange” alert issued in Kangra district and heavy rain forecasts for Sirmaur, Solan, Mandi, and Shimla.
The IMD’s alerts highlight the need for preparedness in the face of potentially life-threatening weather conditions across several states in India.
