MediaTek has officially unveiled its latest premium 5G chipset — the Dimensity 8450 SoC — designed to enhance mobile gaming, AI capabilities, and camera experiences on upcoming smartphones. As part of the Dimensity 8 series, the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 SoC builds on the brand’s focus on performance, efficiency, and intelligent processing.
OPPO will be the first smartphone maker to launch a device powered by this chip, with the OPPO Reno14 Pro leading the debut. A K-series OPPO device featuring the same chipset is also expected to follow soon.
Core Architecture and Graphics Power
The Dimensity 8450 is built on an all-big-core architecture, featuring eight Arm Cortex-A725 CPU cores. It is paired with an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, offering a substantial boost for high FPS gaming and better sustained performance. This setup is designed to ensure that users no longer have to choose between raw power and energy efficiency.
Dr. Yenchi Lee, General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, emphasized, “With our All Big Core design, also featured in our flagship chips, we’re demonstrating that exceptional performance and efficiency can coexist.”
Advanced AI and Camera Capabilities
To strengthen AI capabilities, the chip includes the MediaTek NPU 880, aimed at powering GenAI applications, AI imaging features, and intelligent voice assistance. Users can expect faster on-device processing and richer user experiences in AI-driven apps.
For imaging, the chipset houses the Imagiq 1080 ISP, enabling in-sensor zoom and enhanced low-light photography. This makes the chipset well-suited for creators and photographers using smartphones as their primary devices.
Connectivity and 5G Performance
The MediaTek Dimensity 8450 SoC comes integrated with a 5G-A modem, supporting up to 3CC Carrier Aggregation and peak download speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps. This ensures future-ready connectivity, improved call stability, and faster downloads.
According to MediaTek, this new chip aims to offer a premium experience across entertainment, photography, and productivity, especially as AI adoption continues to rise.
As the OPPO Reno14 Pro prepares to debut with the Dimensity 8450 SoC, users can expect a solid blend of next-gen performance and innovation packed inside mid-to-premium Android smartphones.
