Noel Tata Appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts

Noel Tata, the new chairman of Tata Group, was appointed the chairman of Tata Trusts on October 11, succeeding his half-brother Ratan Tata, who passed away two days ago at the age of 86.

The Trustees of the various Trusts that comprise the Tata Trusts held a joint meeting in Mumbai today, where they expressed their condolences over the demise of Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts. They recalled his immense contributions not only to the Tata Group but also to nation-building. In subsequent meetings held immediately after, it was unanimously decided to appoint Noel Naval Tata as the Chairman of the various Trusts that constitute the Tata Trusts, effective immediately.

Ratan Tata never married and had no children, leaving the organization without a named successor at Tata Trusts. Noel Tata’s appointment is significant as the Tata Trusts owns 66% of Tata Sons, the holding company of various firms under the Tata brand, which boasts a legacy of over 150 years.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by the responsibility that has been placed upon me by my fellow Trustees,” said Noel Tata regarding his new role as Tata Trust Chairman. “I look forward to carrying on the legacy of Ratan N Tata and the founders of the Tata Group. Founded more than a century ago, the Tata Trusts are a unique vehicle for undertaking social good. On this solemn occasion, we rededicate ourselves to carrying on our developmental and philanthropic initiatives and continuing to play our part in nation-building.”
