Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal’s mother, Santhakumari, passed away on Tuesday in Kochi. She was 90. Doctors at Amrita Hospital confirmed the news to local media.
Santhakumari breathed her last at Mohanlal’s residence in Elamakkara. She had been suffering from neurological issues for a long time and was under medical care.
Family Background and Condolences from Film Industry
Santhakumari was a native of Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta district. She later moved to Thiruvananthapuram with her family after her husband, Viswanathan Nair, took up a role as law secretary with the Kerala government. After she reportedly suffered a stroke, Mohanlal brought her to Kochi so she could stay closer to him.
Soon after the news of her demise, veteran actor Mammootty and his wife Sulfath reached the residence to pay their respects. Santhakumari’s elder son, Pyarelal, and Mohanlal’s brother, had passed away earlier in 2000.
Mohanlal often spoke about his deep bond with his mother and credited her for his success in life and cinema. Earlier this year, he also shared an old photograph with her on Mother’s Day, expressing his gratitude and love.
Mohanlal’s Recent Work and Recognition
The actor was recently honoured by the Kerala government after winning the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. His latest film, Vrusshabha, directed by Nanda Kishore, marked his most recent big-screen appearance.
