Sony has announced the launch of its game streaming device, the PlayStation Portal, in India. This handheld device allows players to stream their PS5 games remotely, offering console-quality controls over a Wi-Fi connection. The PlayStation Portal was previously launched in the US and globally last year.
PlayStation Portal Price in India and Availability
The PlayStation Portal is priced at Rs. 18,999 in India. It will be available in a single white color starting August 3. You can purchase it from various retailers including Sony Centres, Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance, Vijay Sales, and Blinkit.
PlayStation Portal Specifications and Features
- Display: The device features an 8-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. It supports up to 60fps in full HD resolution for PS4 and PS5 games.
- Controls: It includes DualSense wireless controller features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in compatible games. The display also has touch-enabled zones on the left and right sides.
- Connectivity: The device includes a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Sony’s proprietary PS Link feature, and Wi-Fi 5. Notably, it does not support Bluetooth connectivity.
- Game Streaming: The PlayStation Portal does not run games natively. Instead, it streams games from a PS5 console over home Wi-Fi using Sony’s Remote Play feature. This allows users to play PS5 games even when the TV connected to the console is in use.
How Remote Play Works
To use the PlayStation Portal, players must first set up Remote Play on their PS5. The console needs to be turned on or in rest mode, connected to the internet, and updated to the latest system software. Once set up, players can stream their games to the PlayStation Portal and play anywhere within the range of their Wi-Fi network.
The PlayStation Portal offers a convenient way to enjoy PS5 games with the comfort and features of a handheld device, making it an attractive option for gaming on the go.
