Dalljiet Kaur Files FIR Against Estranged Husband Nikhil Patel Amid Allegations of Cruelty and Cheating

Television actress Dalljiet Kaur has once again found herself in the headlines due to her turbulent relationship with her now-estranged husband, Nikhil Patel. On August 2, Dalljiet filed an FIR against Nikhil at Mumbai’s Agripada police station, accusing him of ‘cruelty’ and ‘cheating’. The complaint was registered under sections 85 and 316 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Legal Accusations and Details

  • Section 85 of BNS pertains to the husband or his relatives subjecting a woman to cruelty. If proven guilty, the accused could face imprisonment for up to three years and be liable to a fine.
  • Section 316 (2) of BNS deals with criminal breach of trust, which can lead to imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both.

This FIR follows a series of legal disputes between the couple. Earlier this year, Dalljiet had also taken legal action against Nikhil in a Nairobi City court, obtaining a stay order to prevent him from evicting her and her son Jaydon from their home in Kenya.

Nikhil Patel’s Response

In response to the legal actions, Nikhil Patel has maintained that their marriage faced difficulties after Dalljiet decided to leave Kenya with her son Jaydon and return to India. He has claimed that this decision strained their relationship, ultimately leading to their separation. Nikhil also mentioned that their marriage ceremony in March 2023 in Mumbai, though culturally significant, was not legally binding.

A Troubled Relationship

Dalljiet and Nikhil’s marriage in March 2023 marked a new chapter for both, as it was the second marriage for each of them. Dalljiet was previously married to her Kulvadhu co-star Shalin Bhanot, with whom she has a son, Jaydon. Their marriage ended in 2015 after Dalljiet accused Shalin of domestic abuse.

In the latest developments, Nikhil has also accused Dalljiet of harassment and filed legal notices against her under various Indian laws, including the Information Technology Act of 2000 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012. He argued that Dalljiet’s social media posts accusing him of an extra-marital affair were baseless.

Moving Forward

As the legal battle continues, both parties are navigating the complexities of their estranged relationship. Dalljiet’s recent actions indicate her determination to protect herself and her son, while Nikhil’s counter-accusations suggest a protracted legal struggle.
